How To Choose Your Lead Rope

If you’re wondering what the difference is between “Professional” and “Premium” and how to choose a length, you’ve come the right place my friend.

Professional

Most Durable

Made from static rope construction, either Treeline or Kernmantle, our Professional Lead Ropes offer the most durable option. Static rope was primarily designed for applications where minimal stretch and high tensile strength are paramount, such as hauling heavy loads up vertical faces. This design making them an excellent choice for the every-day, all-day professional.
Precise Feel

Because these leads are made from a static rope they are stiffer and more accurate at delivering a precise feel.
1/2" Diameter

All of our Professional Ropes come in 1/2" Diameter.
Standard Popper

All of our lead ropes come standard with a leather popper

Premium

Most Versatile

Our Premium Lead Ropes are made from double braided polyester. Although commonly referred to as "yacht rope" we prefer to let you know exactly what type of yacht rope we use. With its high load-bearing capacity and abrasion resistance, Double Braided Polyester is ideal for everyday use and abuse. In addition, Its resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and moisture ensures longevity even in harsh environments.
Soft Feel

The unique double braid construction is composed of tightly woven polyester fibers, featuring a durable braided core surrounded by a smooth braided outer sleeve. This design offers a softer, heavier feel that can be more comfortable in hand.
Multi Diameter

Our Premium Lead Ropes come in a range of diameters to suit hands of all sizes.
Standard Popper

All of our lead ropes come standard with a leather popper.

What about length?

As with most things, the answer is “It Depends.” But, here’s what we’ve found works best for our clients but as always if you have a specific situation or question don’t hesitate to reach out! We love to discuss horses and horse things any time!

10'

Our shortest available option we’ve found the 10′ lead rope to be a great length when working with ponies and for young and shorter stature equestrians.

12'

The 12′ lead rope is a great middle-of-the road option for average (14.2hh – 15.3hh) horses and average height (5’5″ – 6′) equestrians.

14'

Our longest available lead ropes are great for the big & tall amongst us. Both tall horses and/or tall equestrians will appreciate the extra bit of space.

As always...

It might take a bit of trial and error before you find your perfect match, if you can try out someone else’s rope it might give you a better idea where you’re comfortable, But when in doubt always consult a trusted trainer or professional.
